For those who have dealt with a bully, what was the worst advice you got to get them to stop?

I remember being told to try to make friends with the bully but all I got were my peace-making efforts thrown back in my face and a nasty rumor spread about me. Thankfully middle school is long over and I have no seen her since I entered high school but I'm still kind of resentful of all the bad advice I got rather than someone trying to actively help me.
