What do you know about this?

So, my brother, who is going into 7th grade is going to try out for AAU. I mean, the tryouts don't start until later this summer, but I was just wondering how good the chances are of getting selected. It must depend on a lot of different factors, but the main thing I was thinking about is: kids who have been a part of AAU previous years having an advantage. And also: What about standing out? Is there anyone who has participated in this that would know any information? That would be really helpful.
